Urbium YAG Fractitional Laser Treatment

Preparation prior to treatment:

  • Treatment of suntanned skin should be postponed;
  • If you suffer from cold sores it is imperative that you inform your surgeon;
  • Treatment is contra-indicated in patients taking photo-sensitising medication;
  • Thoroughly remove all creams and cosmetics;
  • Anaesthetic is not required in most cases.

Post treatment care in hospital:

  • Cooling of the skin with ice packs or a fan can attenuate the mild burning sensation;
  • Antibacterial cream such as Polyfax, may be applied.

Post treatment care at home:

  • Mineral water sprays can be used for the first day;
  • Continue to apply a layer of Polyfax;
  • Avoid vigorous washing with tap water for 24 hours, scrubbing should certainly be avoided;
  • Make-up can be applied after 3 days;
  • Redness is expected to last for between 2 - 7 days;
  • Use a high factor sun protection cream (factor 50 if possible), for up to 6 weeks;
  • Further treatments can be performed after 3 weeks. Should you have any queries, please contact the ward.
